About Le Cassoulet

Causing a stir in South Croydon, Le Cassoulet opened its doors in February 2008 as Head Chef Malcolm John’s second venture. Awarded a prestigious Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide in 2009, and regularly wowing critics, Le Cassoulet has become a firm favourite with discerning diners in the surrounding area. A country-style French bistro, Le Cassoulet offers the best of rustic French cuisine based on the dishes and specialities of South West France. The ambience is warm and intimate, and the service friendly and charming. The wide-ranging menu changes seasonally to ensure fresh produce at all times. We love the fillet of wild sea bass, braised fennel, saffron potatoes & bisque; and the côte de boeuf with sauce béarnaise.

Signature dish

Duck & pork cassoulet.

  • Escargots de bourgogne

Although this was our 4th visit to Le Cassoulet, it was the first evening meal we ate there (we are normally weekend lunch diners). The menu was pretty extensive for a set price (£27.50 - 3 courses) and exceptionally cooked and presented. I ate scallops with black pudding ravioli which was exquisite, followed by lambs liver and onion and bacon pie, very tasty then caramelized rice pudding on ginger tart. A memorable meal and we are looking forward to returning.

I visited Le Cassoulet in Croydon for a celebratory meal and wasn't disappointed. the atmosphere for a Thursday night was good and during these hard times there was about 25 people dining. The food was well cooked and well presented and our waitress was particularly friendly and helpful and had a good knowledge of the menu and how each dish was prepared. A restaurant I will definitely be returning to.

We had been lead to believe that Le Cassoulet in Croydon would rival the london restaurants so we were a bit dissappointed. The food was nice but nothing special. Although as restaurants in Croydon go it was very good.
